I practice what I preach.

Every time I got in the car on Thursdays at 12pm EST, the same radio show would capture my attention. It was “Dr. Dawn Graham on Careers” on SiriusXM.  I was always impressed by her professional guidance and practical advice to job seekers.

I knew I wanted to be on her show.

I wanted to connect with her and join her as a guest to share tips, trends, and experiences working with recent grads. This would give me a broader platform to help others in their career search journey while continuing to learn through a seasoned career expert and host.

I did not know Dawn.

I had no PR person.

I had no connections to anyone at Sirius XM.

I just pitched myself.

I sent her a “pitch” telling her how I could provide value to her listeners– many who were parents worried about their grads getting a j0b. I provided ideas for a show, highlighting my skills, credentials, and references. I sold myself. And she (and her team) took interest and contacted me.

Just like finding a job, earning a promotion, or getting someone’s attention… we all need to pitch ourselves.

I am honored that Dawn invited me as one of her 5 guests to join her 5th-anniversary show where I share how I pitched myself to her to get on the show. And how grads can do the same to get a job.

Listen at 20:40 for my segment on the show HERE.
